At your request, I conducted an analysis of mitral valve
surgery in South Florida usin ghe Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) public inpatient discharge database. This database includes discharges from all acute care hospitals in Florida. I used databases for the years 2000 through 2003 as
well as the first and second quarters of 2004. This is the most current data released by the AHCA. The following are the key results of this analysis.

1. Florida Medical Center performed more mitral valve
replacement surgeries during the period Q1'00-Q2'04 than any other hospital in Broward County.
2. From 2000 through the second quarter of 2004, Florida Medical Center was the second leading provider for mitral valve repair in South Florida.
3. From 2000 through the second quarter of 2004, Florida Medical Center was the third leading provider for all mitral valve surgery in South Florida.
4. From 2000 through the second quarter of 2004, Dr. Harold Roberts performed more mitral valve repairs than any other surgeon in Florida.
