Dr. Barry Crowe is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon and board certified general surgeon.  In the mid-1990s, he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency in Birmingham as well.  He finished his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at St. Louis University where he trained under thoracic surgeon, Dr. Keith Naunheim, and cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Robert Johnson.
Dr. Naunheim and Dr. Johnson are both authors of current cardiothoracic textbooks.

Dr. Crowe has several publications and professional presentations.
He presented at the Southeast Southern Surgical Conference new-wave management for highly extensive liver injuries using biological glue.
He now uses this innovative strategy for lung resections and repair
reducing, the time patients are in the hospital.

Dr. Crowe is dedicated to advancing and perfecting his many surgical interests.  These include (but are not limited to) lung surgery, esophageal surgery, coronary artery bypass, valve repair or replacement, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation.  In keeping with cutting-edge technology, he performs lung resections using a video assisted approach reducing the incision on the chest to approximately 3 inches. In addition, he places biventricular defibrillators via a coronary sinus approach so a thoracotomy incision is not required.  He focuses on repair, not replacement, of valves during cardiac operations and performs the vast majority of esophageal cases for his group.  During cardiac operations, he is now able to cure atrial fibrillation using cryo technology so his patients will eventually not need coumadin (a blood thinner) post-operatively.  Dr. Crowe is now offering coronary revascularization to selective patients using the DaVinci robot, alleviating the need for traditional sternotomy (splitting of the breastbone).  He uses these new surgical techniques to enhance outcomes benefiting the patients, their families, and the community. These operations are performed successfully even in patients considered high risk.  He is currently on staff at eight hospitals throughout Broward County.

Personally, Dr. Crowe has been married to his wife Townley for 10 years and lives in Ft. Lauderdale.  They have two young daughters, Abigail and Shelby.  He enjoys going to the beach with his family and swimming with his girls. Other hobbies are cooking, traveling, and physical fitness.
